About
half of all shea-butter processed is consumed at home.
Properly processed and stored shea-butter keeps well
for months. Shea-nut dried well can keep for years,
being resistant to insect attack.
In
the
areas where it is abundant, the shea-butter tree is often
a more significant source of household income than cultivated
crops. The proceeds from shea products often cover all
household expenses, from soap, salt andmedicine to poll
taxes and school fees.
The
Shea Project seeks to access national, regional and international
markets for Ugandan shea-butter and other non-wood products
of indigenous woodland, reinforcing
local conservation of woodland through direct economic
incentive
